How It Works
The calculator uses potassium values per 100 grams from the USDA FoodData Central database. For each sauce type, we store the average potassium content (mg per 100g). Your serving size is converted to grams (if entered in tbsp or fl oz), then the potassium is calculated as:
Potassium (mg) = (Potassium per 100g × Serving in grams) ÷ 100
For example, ketchup has ~320 mg potassium per 100g. A 15 g tablespoon gives 320 × 15 ÷ 100 = 48 mg potassium. For a 30 g serving (2 tablespoons), that doubles to 96 mg. For a 100 g serving (about 6.7 tablespoons), you get the full 320 mg. The formula is linear, so you can easily scale up or down.
